I am Kenny Douwenga, born in 1965 in Heerenveen and now I live in Grou, a small watersports village in the North of the Netherlands.
In 2017 I started to get to know my camera better, which I therefor only use during holidays. I took a number of photography courses. The assignments that were given forced me to go out with the camera and I really needed that little push.
Until the beginning of 2018 I hardly knew anything about Street Photography.
Today, capturing and collecting moments on the streets, the lives of complete strangers and unique moments that only exist for a short time has become something of an obsession.
With the camera standby, I can completely lose myself in a kind of meditative state, introverted, but noticing everything, seeing everything around me.

Walking for hours through a city, hanging out in squares, stations and blending in with the environment. Watching people, their behavior or habits, small things we otherwise pass by in the hurry of the day.
People that come an go, who are the way they are in combination with their environment, a frame, background, reflection, in light or dark, colors, or just something funny.
Capturing that, intuitively, the tension of it, partially losing my timidity and never knowing in advance what you will come home with in the evening, that is the pinnacle of Street Photography for me.
In 2020 I joined the photographer collective "Hanialab" in Leeuwarden together with 6 other photographers. We meet every two weeks and work with the guidance of a professional photography teacher on very diverse photo assignments.
